Where I’m Calling From
I’ve roamed and rambled creatively my entire life and the lack of cohesion unfortunately shows. Graphic design, filmmaking, poetry and fiction are a few of my more focused endeavors but before them, during them and in spite of them, there has always been music; Making it, ingesting it, thinking about it, talking about it, losing myself in it, cramming it in to every nook and cranny of my life that I could. And then there’s all the ancillary goodies: gear, records, recording, playing shows… So music is the angle from which I approach almost everything. It’s also the only creative output I’m concerned with these days and has been for years. In fact, I hope this newsletter becomes a place for me to offload the non-musical aspects of my ideas and get some collaborations going with the like-minded

I have a lot of ideas, projects, musings and enthusiasms but they’re scattered all over the internet so this substack will dutifully serve as my one constant going forward through all that is coming. There’s social accounts and my website of course but this platform is my tower of song and my journal of record.
Comments are open. Let’s make something together.
Bert
PS-The Oblivion Ha-Ha is the title of a collection of poems by the great James Tate by the way. It’s always been a great phrase to me for finding and experiencing beautiful things that make you want to keep laughing and enjoying life in the face of the void.
